| Welcome to the Tudor Book Club! |
| Here at the Tudor Book Club we read works of fiction and non-fiction related to the Tudors. As a group we decide on a Tudor-related book, then set a loose reading schedule. While reading we post questions, comments, etc. here to discuss with other readers. |

Non-Fiction The Lady in the Tower: The Fall of Anne Boleyn Author: Alison Weir Background: (Warning! May contain "spoilers") "With 'The Lady in the Tower,' Alison Weir inserts herself into the scrum of historians eager to interpret Anne Boleyn’s story...this time Ms. Weir sets out to study one four-month period at particularly close range and to search for the truth by examining primary sources. The narrow range of “The Lady in the Tower” extends from the death of Anne’s predecessor, Katherine of Aragon, in January of 1536 to Anne’s beheading in May of that year. Ms. Weir takes an investigative approach to the forces that toppled Anne from favor and led to her trial and execution..." From the NY Times. Read more here. Length: 464 pages (including preface and index) | Fiction Mademoiselle Boleyn Author: Robin Maxwell Background: (Warning! May contain "spoilers") When young Anne Boleyn is sent to French court with her father and sister Mary, she believes she's going for an innocent adventure. But when the ambitious Ambassador Thomas Boleyn leads them into the highly sophisticated and sexually permissive court of Francois I, Anne quickly learns that they are merely pawns to be used for their father's own political purpose. Since all good English girls are expected to do their father's bidding, Mary becomes mistress to the outrageous French king and is ultimately seduced into his dangerous world by the luxuries of court. But Anne has a different fate in mind. Anne is younger, cleverer, and stronger willed than her elder sister, and with the guidance of chosen, powerful allies and unlikely friends, such as Leonardo da Vinci, she learns how to navigate the challenges, passions and betrayals of court. As she grows into a beautiful young woman, Anne undergoes her own sexual awakening, each daring exploit taking her one step closer to the life that is her destiny...From Robin Maxwell.com Read a three part interview with Robin Maxwell here. The Lady Elizabeth by Alison Weir Background on the book: (Watch out for slight spoilers!) "Before she is three, Elizabeth learns of the tragic fate that has befallen her mother, the enigmatic and seductive Anne Boleyn, and that she herself has been declared illegitimate, an injustice that will haunt her all her life. What comes next is a succession of stepmothers, bringing with them glimpses of love, fleeting security, tempestuous conflict, and tragedy. The death of her father puts the teenage Elizabeth in greater peril, leaving her at the mercy of ambitious and unscrupulous men. Like her mother two decades earlier, she is imprisoned in the Tower of London–and fears she will also meet her mother’s grisly end..."(Barnes&Noble.com). I am creating this thread for everyone to place their suggestions for our next read(s) in the Tudor Book Club. Feel free to put either non-fiction or fiction. You can put one of each, but please do not exceed two books (one fiction and one non-fiction). If we get enough non-fiction suggestions and people interested in reading a non-fiction book we can start a separate club for it. As suggested before, it might be nice to do both fiction and non-fiction that correspond so all can participate in both discussions even if they are only reading the fiction.
My Two Suggestions Are: The Mistresses of Henry VIII by Kelly Hart (non-fiction) Mademoiselle Boleyn by Robin Maxwell (fiction) (I know they don't really go together but I thought both would be fun!) Please leave your suggestions (max two) here.

I am creating this thread to get some ideas for our next book club read. We could either do another novel or we could go back and forth between fiction and non-fiction. If enough people are interested, we can also do a fiction book club and a non-fiction book club. So please leave a comment with your ideas/suggestions!
